Mark Chai is an award-winning,
Hawaiian-Chinese artist who combines his
formal training in art with a lifelong
passion for aesthetic design to create
beautiful lamps, furniture, large
installations and sculpture.
Although renown for his work with recycled materials, today Mark is most excited about using fine woods to create pendant lamps of interlocking pieces. Each time he gets an idea for a new form, he calculates the angles for the pieces by hand, not by computer. Mark has been featured in the media, including newspapers and television. His work has received awards and recognition in juried shows and prestigious galleries, and is held in many private collections. Mark
grew up on O'ahu, the son of Norman and
Elizabeth Pa Chai. He is married to author
Makana Risser Chai. He
attended Damien High School, and received his BFA
at the University of Hawaii in 1976. © Copyright 1997-2006 by Mark Chai Arts. All rights reserved. |
